Apple's first presentation of 2022, themed "Peek performance," was jam-packed with details. The releases catered to a wide spectrum of clients, from daily users looking for an improved yet affordable iPhone to professionals in need of professional-grade technology. Tim Cook wore a discreet tribute to Live in the UK throughout the ceremony, and Apple's celebration of women on International Women's Day was blasted on Twitter for being empty.
Apple 2022 Peek Performance Event
Here's a rundown of everything that was announced during the "Peek Performance" Event.
1. iPhone 13 in Green Colour
The curtain was raised when Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled new colourways of earthy green for both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. Cook called the iPhone 13's the green colour "bold," while the iPhone 13 Pro's green colour was hailed as "sophisticated." They're incredibly similar-looking, if we may be so "brave," but perhaps we're not "intelligent" enough to tell them apart.
2. iPhone SE 3 (Second Generation)
The third version of Apple's most cheap iPhone was revealed on Tuesday, as expected. According to Mashable's Alex Perry, "it essentially fits some iPhone 13 hardware into the body of an iPhone 8." This features the cult-favourite home button, an A15 bionic chip, and, yep, 5G. The price increase is the only little surprise in the iPhone SE announcement. It costs $429, as opposed to the previous iPhone SE, which cost $399. Still, that's not a bad price for a powerful iPhone with advanced capabilities.
Pre-orders will be accepted on Friday, March 11, with deliveries beginning on March 18.
Price: $429 USD
3. The 5th generation iPad Air
Interestingly, the latest iPad Air has been given an upgrade thanks to the addition M1 chip. This enables it to compete against Apple iPad Pro, which also features an M1 but costs nearly twice as much. In addition to the powerful new Apple Silicon processor, the iPad Air 5 boasts a 12MP ultra-wide camera with Center Stage, which allows the lens to follow you around while filming, 5G capability, and an updated USB-C connector for speedier file transfer. It's available in a variety of colours, including space grey, starlight, pink, purple, and a new pastel blue.
Pre-orders will be accepted on Friday, March 11, with deliveries beginning on March 18.
Price: Starting at $599 USD.
4. Mac Studio
The Mac Studio is a new desktop computer on the market. The Mac Studio appears to be a bigger version of the Mac Mini, but it comes with M1 Max or the new M1 Ultra CPU, which Mashable's Stan Schroeder describes as "basically two M1 Max chips rolled into one," making it Apple's most powerful chip.
Because the Mac Studio is designed for professionals, it has outstanding connectivity. It includes four Thunderbolt 4 connections on the back, a 10GB Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack on the front, and two more USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the back. The Mac Studio also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 built-in. The Mac Studio costs a whooping US$8,000 when all specifications are maxed out.
Availability: Pre-order now for delivery on March 18th.
The M1 Max chip costs $1,999, while the M1 Ultra chip costs $3,999.
5. Studio Display
Apple also revealed its new Studio Display, which is described as a perfect complement to the Mac Studio. It has a 27-inch screen, a 5K resolution, a brightness of 600 nits, and over a billion colours. Because the monitor has its own A13 chip, it provides enhanced video/audio quality and includes Center Stage even when not used with the Mac Studio. Studio Display features three USB-C connectors, a Thunderbolt port, and can be connected to any other Mac.
Availability: Pre-order now for delivery on March 18th.
Price: $1,599 and above
